Posting to the site means putting something you want to say on a webpage. It's very easy once you know how. On this site all registered users can post to at least one forum so can participate in online discussions with others in the S:VOX community.
To post to a forum, (same as posting a blog entry or to upload a picture to the galleries) the site interface works pretty much the same everywhere. There are slight differences but we'll describe those in further posts for the specific thing you want to do. This post will cover what's necessary to post to a forum.
In the menu on the left-hand side of your screen there's a link called "post to the forums". Clicking on this brings up a page called "Submit forum topic". Underneath the title is a long box called "Title" where you enter whatever you want to call your post.
Below that is a drop-down list to choose the appropriate forum for the post to appear in. Click the down arrow and choose which forum you wish to post in.
Next comes a big box called "Body". This is where you type what you want to say. Whilst typing, whenever you wish to start a new paragraph press return twice (as has been done with this post) and the site will take care of formatting and styles for paragraphs. Easy-peasy, eh?
At the top of the "Body" box there are some icons. Hover your mouse over them to see what they all are but the important ones are the first two and the one that looks like a globe. The first places tags around text to italicise it, and the second does the same to make it bold. To use them highlight text with your mouse and click the icon to make the tags appear. The text will be changed when viewed as a webpage.
The globe icon works the same way but turns the text into a link. This one takes a little work - you highlight the text (holding down the left-mouse-button, drag the cursor over the words to highlight) and click the icon as before then after the http:// and before the "> bracket, type in the web address you wish to link to. For example this site should look like this: <a href="http://www.svox.org.uk/">S:VOX website</a>.
Any web address put into the text is automatically converted to be a link by the site. For example I can type the web address for this site and the site makes it into a link: www.svox.org.uk
Finally, the last thing to do is to click on the big, friendly "Submit" button and your post will be live on the site for all to see!
To submit a blog entry requires the same process as above except you don't have to choose a forum to put it in. Blogs are used to post things that are news of interest to the community.
